Day Two: Lake Mburo National Park - Ndeija 54/89 km
If road conditions allow, we will start at the Western Ruiza gate, after 62 km we will meet up with the bikes at Biharwe and start riding west. We cross some marshy low-lying areas, skirting larger hills through small villages and smallholdings. Overnight at the very simple Pan Africa Motel in Ndeija after 54 km. If the Ruizi Road is impassable, we shall leave the Park from the main Sanga gate, ride 13 km on gently undulating dirt road to the main road, a total of 89 km to Ndeija.
Day Three: Ndeija - Kabale 102 km
The first part is very similar to the day before, with long low rolling hills interspersed with low lying marshes and open plains. After about 60 km we reach the hills and start to climb - the benefit being the spectacular views! Overnight at White Horse Inn.
Day Four: Kabale 65 km, all dirt roads
Probably the hardest day: we leave Kabale towards the gorgeous Lake Bunyoni, with the small matter of a 470 m climb over 10 km in the way. Views compensate as we ride over several more summits, past the local terraced fields. The highest part of the ride takes us through bamboo forest and then down to the town of Kisoro, close to the volcanic peaks of the Virungu Mountains. Overnight at Kisoro Tourist Hotel.
Day Five: Kisoro - Ruhengeri 37 km
After 10 km of dirt road we join the smooth tarmac of Rwanda. Gently sloping roads take us to the Hotel Asoferwa.
