Tarangire National Park Size: 2,600 km²
Location: 118 km south-west of Arusha.

It owes its name to the Tarangire River where wild animals can be found all year round. Large areas of this national park consist of open tree savannas and grasslands. A very noticeable feature are the enormous Baobab trees. During the dry season (between June and November) a large concentration of animals are attracted to the area because of the Tarangire River which has running water. You can always expect to see a number of big game, such as: elephant, zebra, wildebeest, elan, oryx, and many, many other types of antelope. The evergreen swamps attract some 550 different bird species, more than at any other place in the world.
